Let me start by saying that I wanted some time to pass BEFORE writing this review.
My Truck: 2001 F150 5.4L 4X4 with 150K on the clock
Me: I am a shade tree mechanic,so I know how to turn a wrench and use my air tools.
The 1st intake manifold that Dorman sent me looked like it had been shipped to someone else 1st. I didnt realize that until after I accepted the package from my mail carrier.Upon inspection of the manifold I noticed like many others have noted in their reviews the plenum on the intake was indeed smaller,(more on that later) I also noticed that the BLUE water Jacket gasket, (driver side, rear) was MISSING.I called amazon service dept. and WITHOUT ANY ISSUE AT ALL, they sent me ANOTHER manifold NO QUESTIONS ASKED! AMAZON ROCKS!!!
I did have to wait another 2-3 days to get it tho.
While I had the top half torn down I replaced all the spark plugs,boots,springs, dielectric grease all electrical connections etc. Its MY truck so im doing it right the 1st time.
Now as other reviewers have stated in their concerns about POWER LOSS with the "updated" intake manifold plenum Being to small. That concern is not lost with me, in fact it is a very VALID POINT.The motor is NOT as "punchy" off the start and DOES NOT pull as hard as it used to when you put your foot in it to her going. I have a full size truck and I want/need that power, The only upside is my fuel economy has increased but im towing, hauling, etc. so I dont care alot about fuel economy I do care about having enough power to get the job done.
So...Why only THREE STARS?
1. The 1st intake manifold was missing the blue water jacket gasket, but all the rest of the screws thermostat etc. were in the bag. Amazon was AWSOME and sent me another one right away!!So that was very cool.
2.I did NOT like that Dorman used self tapping screws for the mounting brackets and coil paks. NOTE TO DORMAN.....please spend the extra .75 cts and put the Friggen inserts in your manifolds and use machine screws so when you have to change the plugs you dont run the risk of STRIPPING OUT THE F_ING COIL PAK SCREWS!!!
3. The plenum IS smaller so be aware that you will lose power but your fuel economy will increase
4.the self tapping screws suck, but if you are looking for inexpensive fix this is part!
So far I have NO issues with coolant leaks or any codes popping up
This job will take a novice a weekend to do as there are many ''steps" to swapping out this part. Its not as hard as it looks and YOUTUBE IS YOUR FREIND take your time, take photos as you take everything off, hoses, vacuum lines, etc. and you''ll be ok. Once I had ALL my parts it took me about 5 hours to install everything start the motor.
The manifold has been on my truck for 6 weeks now and still going.
I hope this review is helpful and i tried to be as detailed as I could. Give me a thumbs up as it will help others who have to do this swap.
so be sure to inspect the manifold when you get it

I installed this manifold on my 2000 F-150 5.4 Triton motor back in October 2017...I wanted to get at least 2000 miles on the truck before doing a review...Still running good with no complaints...Just make sure to clean up your gasket surface and torque to specs in the pattern given...This manifold comes with O`ring type gaskets installed into the new manifold body...The traditional gaskets used at the factory are not needed for this installation...There will be lots of dirt and debris around the intake openings when you lift the old manifold off...Be careful not to let debris fall into the intake chambers...Put clean rags into the openings to keep dirt out...Keep a vaccum attachment handy to suck up dirt and debris...If you are also doing plugs blow out the plug cavities before pulling the plugs because dirt and oil will fall into the combustion chamber...Also make sure to install your O`ring on the vacuum line "elbow" that turns and snaps into place included with the manifold...While you are doing this job and you are well over 80,000 miles it is best to replace other parts like the spark plugs and fuel injector O`rings ...Do the injector O` rings regardless...I also replaced the individual spark plug coils since I have about 100,000 miles on them...While apart, clean your throttle body with throttle body cleaner...Here are some photos from the job...I also show close up manifold damage that caused the coolant leak in the first place...They always fail in this spot...I learned how to do this job from Youtube...This job is for an "experienced" guy or girl who has wrenched on their car on a normal basis...Took me a few days going at a careful pace doing the job right the first time... Here is a title from Youtube that will show you step by step how to do the job... Watch this video several times writing down the steps so you can refer to them as you go...here is the video title for the Ford F-150 5.4L model ...> Ford 5.4L 2v Engine Intake Gaskets P0171 P0174 ... This mechanic also has a video about Spark plug "Spitting" issues in some of these older Ford models...Here is the title to search... > Important Tips When Replacing Spark Plugs on Ford 4.6L 5.4L 6.8L 2v Engines ... One of the TOP RATED reviews said he did the job in 3 hours also stating he wasn''t a mechanic...I don''t even think a master Tech could do it in 3 hours if they are doing it right...As I stated above, If you are a weekend mechanic, it will take you the better part of 2 days to do it right...

My 25 year Ford Mach tryed to talk me out of buying this intake for a truck that I am going to keep. It was so cheaply made the only way to mount your coil packs and fuel rails attached with sheet metal screws into plastic holes this means when you adjustments you pull those screws throw them in the trash and go to your local hardware store and buy the a assortment of sheet metal screws because your going to need them. The crossover had bolts missing it has a major vacuum leaks everywere under the throttle body replacing it with a OME intake all problems solved. If you just need to get it fixed to get rid of it I still wouldn’t do this to anyone. Amazon has OME SELLERS please say with these sellers and you won’t pay for labor replacing the intake twice

Works just fine. I have about 3000 miles on it and no issues so far on my 01 f250. As long as your matting surfaces are clean and you follow the torque specs you shouldnt have any issues. Make sure not to for get to install then O ring for the PVC system. Install took me about 4 hours. If you are a first time mechanic is can be a bit difficult. I use to be a mechanic back in the day but now only for my own cars so the task wasnt hard. Any backyard mechanic can tackle this job down. The only issue i had with the product was there was a good amount of Flash between matting surfaces of the product but a quick clean with a blade took care of it. Didnt care for the tapping screws to the housing, but they work just fine. I did run into a problem to where one of the holes that was suppose to be there for the fuel bracket wasnt made, but a good drill bit corrected that issues. My only recommendation is you install the fuel rail on the intake before putting it back on. Noise seems the same, MPG didnt change, just corrected my air leak and lean codes. All in all, id buy again for the price. Not the best quality but it works.

Especially if this is going on an A to B get to work vehicle. The intake is fine. A bit noisy but maybe I just think it is. No data to back that up just my own perception. It has been in the field on one of my work trucks for a bit now and no leaks or issues. How this type of thing can miss QA I don''t know. I would buy this again if I needed to. I will just check the holes the minute I get it next go round. I also replaced all the injectors with OEM parts while I had it taken apart and that was a smart move. Employee tells me it runs like a scalded dog now. Maybe we can a get another 200k out of it?

I shopped around and found an intake manifold for my Ford Excursion for $115.00 with free shipping. But I know Dorman products are some of the best after market parts and quality built. So I went with Dorman. It was an exact exchange and a perfect fit. It came with everything that was needed to do a complete change out. When I replaced the manifold, I also changed the coils and plugs. I used EECP coils because they are one of the best after market coils available. I used Motorcraft plugs. My X runs like new. the old manifold was leaking water and air. So now I have better performance and much quieter sounding engine.

For those who stated that they feel their vehicle feels slower with less performance, remember when you disconnect your batter for a period of time, the computer will lose all data on your driving habits. After 50 to 100 miles of your normal driving, you may feel that performance come back. I highly recommend this product.

2001 Expedition 5.4 developed the common leak at the passenger side coolant crossover. I’ve had good experience with Dorman products, decided to use the Dorman replacement intake manifold.

Things I noticed:

- I feel like the fuel rail sits in a slightly different position, making a few of the hard to reach things, easier to get to.

- the front drivers side fuel rail screw hole, no matter what I tried, couldn’t get the provided screw “started”. I ended up drilling the hole out so the screw could go in.

- not a fan of the self threading type screws for the coils. Very easy to over-do it and it’ll never tighten properly if you go too far.

- injectors seated nicely, seemed a more snug fit than the OEM manifold. They “snapped” in.

- the chamber that fits in the valley is much smaller. Can actually see the block and get to screws etc that may get dropped.

- torqued the manifold bolts per specs. Directions made it seem like it came with new ones, but they were much too short, so i used the OEM ones. First start up, had a coolant leak at the cylinder #5 crossover above the thermostat (front drivers side). Can’t tell yet if the problem is a crack in the new manifold, and that’s frustrating.

Seems well made, just not an item you want to take out and replace because of a manufacturing defect. Once I figure out the new coolant leak (last picture, had cleaned up all coolant in the valley), I’ll update this.

*edit* re-torqued bolts, and no leaks! Still need to troubleshoot a lumpy idle that wasn’t there before the manifold replacement. Could just possibly be a vacuum line.

I installed this on a 2003 Expedition EB 5.4 4x4. Original intake was leaking water all over the passenger side of the intake and flooding the spark plug wells causing a misfire. Started the repair at 7:30am and by 10:30am I was on the road. I am not a mechanic but I know my way around cars and tool boxes. I''ve built plenty of hot rods. Watch the linked video before you start. Maybe twice. It''s a great how to tear down video of the 5.4 2v intake. Most informative I found. Then it will make the process less painful. I recommend purchasing new o rings for the fuel injectors. If you forget to order them, most if not all local parts stores will have them in stock.

One "special tool" needed is a torque wrench that does 18in lbs and 18ft lbs...
I used a torque wrench that went from 20in lbs - 220in lbs. On a side note 216in lbs is 18ft lbs. So I used the one torque wrench for it all.

Good luck! Watch this video for any help.

Let me start by saying that I wanted some time to pass BEFORE writing this review.
My Truck: 2001 F150 5.4L 4X4 with 150K on the clock
Me: I am a shade tree mechanic,so I know how to turn a wrench and use my air tools.
The 1st intake manifold that Dorman sent me looked like it had been shipped to someone else 1st. I didnt realize that until after I accepted the package from my mail carrier.Upon inspection of the manifold I noticed like many others have noted in their reviews the plenum on the intake was indeed smaller,(more on that later) I also noticed that the BLUE water Jacket gasket, (driver side, rear) was MISSING.I called amazon service dept. and WITHOUT ANY ISSUE AT ALL, they sent me ANOTHER manifold NO QUESTIONS ASKED! AMAZON ROCKS!!!
I did have to wait another 2-3 days to get it tho.
While I had the top half torn down I replaced all the spark plugs,boots,springs, dielectric grease all electrical connections etc. Its MY truck so im doing it right the 1st time.
Now as other reviewers have stated in their concerns about POWER LOSS with the "updated" intake manifold plenum Being to small. That concern is not lost with me, in fact it is a very VALID POINT.The motor is NOT as "punchy" off the start and DOES NOT pull as hard as it used to when you put your foot in it to her going. I have a full size truck and I want/need that power, The only upside is my fuel economy has increased but im towing, hauling, etc. so I dont care alot about fuel economy I do care about having enough power to get the job done.
So...Why only THREE STARS?
1. The 1st intake manifold was missing the blue water jacket gasket, but all the rest of the screws thermostat etc. were in the bag. Amazon was AWSOME and sent me another one right away!!So that was very cool.
2.I did NOT like that Dorman used self tapping screws for the mounting brackets and coil paks. NOTE TO DORMAN.....please spend the extra .75 cts and put the Friggen inserts in your manifolds and use machine screws so when you have to change the plugs you dont run the risk of STRIPPING OUT THE F_ING COIL PAK SCREWS!!!
3. The plenum IS smaller so be aware that you will lose power but your fuel economy will increase
4.the self tapping screws suck, but if you are looking for inexpensive fix this is part!
So far I have NO issues with coolant leaks or any codes popping up
This job will take a novice a weekend to do as there are many ''steps" to swapping out this part. Its not as hard as it looks and YOUTUBE IS YOUR FREIND take your time, take photos as you take everything off, hoses, vacuum lines, etc. and you''ll be ok. Once I had ALL my parts it took me about 5 hours to install everything start the motor.
The manifold has been on my truck for 6 weeks now and still going.
I hope this review is helpful and i tried to be as detailed as I could. Give me a thumbs up as it will help others who have to do this swap.
so be sure to inspect the manifold when you get it

I installed this manifold on my 2000 F-150 5.4 Triton motor back in October 2017...I wanted to get at least 2000 miles on the truck before doing a review...Still running good with no complaints...Just make sure to clean up your gasket surface and torque to specs in the pattern given...This manifold comes with O`ring type gaskets installed into the new manifold body...The traditional gaskets used at the factory are not needed for this installation...There will be lots of dirt and debris around the intake openings when you lift the old manifold off...Be careful not to let debris fall into the intake chambers...Put clean rags into the openings to keep dirt out...Keep a vaccum attachment handy to suck up dirt and debris...If you are also doing plugs blow out the plug cavities before pulling the plugs because dirt and oil will fall into the combustion chamber...Also make sure to install your O`ring on the vacuum line "elbow" that turns and snaps into place included with the manifold...While you are doing this job and you are well over 80,000 miles it is best to replace other parts like the spark plugs and fuel injector O`rings ...Do the injector O` rings regardless...I also replaced the individual spark plug coils since I have about 100,000 miles on them...While apart, clean your throttle body with throttle body cleaner...Here are some photos from the job...I also show close up manifold damage that caused the coolant leak in the first place...They always fail in this spot...I learned how to do this job from Youtube...This job is for an "experienced" guy or girl who has wrenched on their car on a normal basis...Took me a few days going at a careful pace doing the job right the first time... Here is a title from Youtube that will show you step by step how to do the job... Watch this video several times writing down the steps so you can refer to them as you go...here is the video title for the Ford F-150 5.4L model ...> Ford 5.4L 2v Engine Intake Gaskets P0171 P0174 ... This mechanic also has a video about Spark plug "Spitting" issues in some of these older Ford models...Here is the title to search... > Important Tips When Replacing Spark Plugs on Ford 4.6L 5.4L 6.8L 2v Engines ... One of the TOP RATED reviews said he did the job in 3 hours also stating he wasn''t a mechanic...I don''t even think a master Tech could do it in 3 hours if they are doing it right...As I stated above, If you are a weekend mechanic, it will take you the better part of 2 days to do it right...

My 25 year Ford Mach tryed to talk me out of buying this intake for a truck that I am going to keep. It was so cheaply made the only way to mount your coil packs and fuel rails attached with sheet metal screws into plastic holes this means when you adjustments you pull those screws throw them in the trash and go to your local hardware store and buy the a assortment of sheet metal screws because your going to need them. The crossover had bolts missing it has a major vacuum leaks everywere under the throttle body replacing it with a OME intake all problems solved. If you just need to get it fixed to get rid of it I still wouldn’t do this to anyone. Amazon has OME SELLERS please say with these sellers and you won’t pay for labor replacing the intake twice

Works just fine. I have about 3000 miles on it and no issues so far on my 01 f250. As long as your matting surfaces are clean and you follow the torque specs you shouldnt have any issues. Make sure not to for get to install then O ring for the PVC system. Install took me about 4 hours. If you are a first time mechanic is can be a bit difficult. I use to be a mechanic back in the day but now only for my own cars so the task wasnt hard. Any backyard mechanic can tackle this job down. The only issue i had with the product was there was a good amount of Flash between matting surfaces of the product but a quick clean with a blade took care of it. Didnt care for the tapping screws to the housing, but they work just fine. I did run into a problem to where one of the holes that was suppose to be there for the fuel bracket wasnt made, but a good drill bit corrected that issues. My only recommendation is you install the fuel rail on the intake before putting it back on. Noise seems the same, MPG didnt change, just corrected my air leak and lean codes. All in all, id buy again for the price. Not the best quality but it works.

Especially if this is going on an A to B get to work vehicle. The intake is fine. A bit noisy but maybe I just think it is. No data to back that up just my own perception. It has been in the field on one of my work trucks for a bit now and no leaks or issues. How this type of thing can miss QA I don''t know. I would buy this again if I needed to. I will just check the holes the minute I get it next go round. I also replaced all the injectors with OEM parts while I had it taken apart and that was a smart move. Employee tells me it runs like a scalded dog now. Maybe we can a get another 200k out of it?

I shopped around and found an intake manifold for my Ford Excursion for $115.00 with free shipping. But I know Dorman products are some of the best after market parts and quality built. So I went with Dorman. It was an exact exchange and a perfect fit. It came with everything that was needed to do a complete change out. When I replaced the manifold, I also changed the coils and plugs. I used EECP coils because they are one of the best after market coils available. I used Motorcraft plugs. My X runs like new. the old manifold was leaking water and air. So now I have better performance and much quieter sounding engine.

For those who stated that they feel their vehicle feels slower with less performance, remember when you disconnect your batter for a period of time, the computer will lose all data on your driving habits. After 50 to 100 miles of your normal driving, you may feel that performance come back. I highly recommend this product.

2001 Expedition 5.4 developed the common leak at the passenger side coolant crossover. I’ve had good experience with Dorman products, decided to use the Dorman replacement intake manifold.

Things I noticed:

- I feel like the fuel rail sits in a slightly different position, making a few of the hard to reach things, easier to get to.

- the front drivers side fuel rail screw hole, no matter what I tried, couldn’t get the provided screw “started”. I ended up drilling the hole out so the screw could go in.

- not a fan of the self threading type screws for the coils. Very easy to over-do it and it’ll never tighten properly if you go too far.

- injectors seated nicely, seemed a more snug fit than the OEM manifold. They “snapped” in.

- the chamber that fits in the valley is much smaller. Can actually see the block and get to screws etc that may get dropped.

- torqued the manifold bolts per specs. Directions made it seem like it came with new ones, but they were much too short, so i used the OEM ones. First start up, had a coolant leak at the cylinder #5 crossover above the thermostat (front drivers side). Can’t tell yet if the problem is a crack in the new manifold, and that’s frustrating.

Seems well made, just not an item you want to take out and replace because of a manufacturing defect. Once I figure out the new coolant leak (last picture, had cleaned up all coolant in the valley), I’ll update this.

*edit* re-torqued bolts, and no leaks! Still need to troubleshoot a lumpy idle that wasn’t there before the manifold replacement. Could just possibly be a vacuum line.

I installed this on a 2003 Expedition EB 5.4 4x4. Original intake was leaking water all over the passenger side of the intake and flooding the spark plug wells causing a misfire. Started the repair at 7:30am and by 10:30am I was on the road. I am not a mechanic but I know my way around cars and tool boxes. I''ve built plenty of hot rods. Watch the linked video before you start. Maybe twice. It''s a great how to tear down video of the 5.4 2v intake. Most informative I found. Then it will make the process less painful. I recommend purchasing new o rings for the fuel injectors. If you forget to order them, most if not all local parts stores will have them in stock.

One "special tool" needed is a torque wrench that does 18in lbs and 18ft lbs...
I used a torque wrench that went from 20in lbs - 220in lbs. On a side note 216in lbs is 18ft lbs. So I used the one torque wrench for it all.
